The United Kingdom is set to progress with using the full worth of immobilized Russia's funds to aid the Ukrainian war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a joint statement, the leaders of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany emphasized that this coordinated action would heighten pressure on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and compel the Russian Federation to come to the table.

They clarified that the initiative would be carried out in tight collaboration with the US.

United Kingdom penalties have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russia's assets since the Russian government launched its full-scale invasion against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, until now, resources sent to the Ukrainian government using Russia's holdings had solely been drawn from earnings and returns earned on them.

Sir Keir informed Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany were united in their goal to drive progress toward utilizing the total worth of the immobilized Russia's state funds to end the war.

He noted that more restrictions over the next period would apply more pressure on Russia.

This announcement is subsequent to European officials convened in the Danish capital last week to discuss utilizing immobilized Russia's funds for a 140-billion-euro financial aid to Ukraine.

Last month, President Donald Trump called on international partners to seize or employ frozen Russia's funds, according to news outlets.

The worth of frozen Russia's assets in the European Union is estimated to be almost €211bn.
