UK Prepared to Use Immobilized Russia's Assets to Finance the Ukrainian War Effort
The British government is ready to advance with utilizing the total value of immobilized Russian holdings to bolster Ukraine's defense operations, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a shared declaration, the heads of state of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany stated that this coordinated action would increase strain on Russian President Vladimir Putin and persuade the Russian Federation to participate in talks.
They added that the decision would be carried out in strong partnership with the US.
UK restrictions have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russian resources since Russia began its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. However, up to this point, resources sent to Ukraine using Russian holdings had solely been taken from earnings and returns earned on them.
Sir Keir told President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and Germany were united in their desire to push forward toward employing the complete amount of the seized Russian sovereign holdings to conclude the conflict.
He added that further measures over the next period would apply more pressure on Moscow.
This declaration follows European Union representatives convened in Copenhagen last week to consider employing frozen Russian assets for a €140bn credit to the Ukrainian nation.
Recently, President Donald Trump encouraged international partners to seize or utilize seized Russian funds, according to media sources.
The worth of immobilized Russian holdings in the EU is calculated to be approximately €211bn.

A pair of individuals were killed and at least 20 people were hurt in the attack, the Ukrainian government reported.
In a update on social media following the incident, Zelensky stated that the cynical and calculated attack focused on civilian and energy infrastructure.
"What's needed is not just talk but firm measures - from the US, EU, and the seven nations - in supplying air defence systems and applying sanctions," he stated.
"Every sanction decision undermines the Russian war effort," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.
Additionally that day, Zelensky informed reporters he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the weapons procurement program, under which Nato countries acquire military equipment from the US to donate to Ukraine.
While praising the United Kingdom's strong support for the Ukrainian government, he said it should demonstrate clearly that it would engage in the program, as well as enforce additional measures on the Russian Federation.
