Patriots Match Best Victory Run Since Tom Brady Era with Win Over Jets
Rookie TreVeyon Henderson has tallied five touchdowns this season
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run since the Tom Brady period as they defeated division rivals the New York Jets 27-14 in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson was the standout with three TDs as the New England squad notched an eighth consecutive victory for the first time since iconic QB Tom Brady's last year with the franchise in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a score, connecting on 25 of 34 passes
The win bolsters the Patriots lead at the top of the AFC East as they advanced to nine wins and two defeats, with the New York at the foot after dropping to two wins and eight losses
The Jets had taken the lead at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields scoring a five-yard touchdown to finish the Jets' opening drive
But the Patriots responded in the second quarter as Henderson scored two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the back of the endzone midway through the third period to push the score to 21-7
"That was a crucial moment for him rising to the challenge, and it's been fantastic for him to keep earning playing time," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He desires to be excellent."
Fields threw to John Metchie toward the end of the third period to narrow the deficit for the Jets but Borregales converted a two field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the triumph
