The athlete achieved her personal best of 1:54.61 the previous season in London.

The Olympic champion concluded her 800m campaign with a triumph at the all-female Athlos meet in NYC on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic gold medallist, who secured bronze at the global championships last month, excelled in an impressive victory in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was only her sixth race in a year impacted by a muscle issue.

Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Hunter Bell finished second once more in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) claimed third.

"I've barely raced this year so it was probably easier for me to go out there and want to give it something," stated the 23-year-old.

"The environment at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The female-exclusive event filled Icahn Stadium in its second year, bringing a party atmosphere to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis O., was present to present the victors with their crowns.

Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - one of the largest prize purses in track and field.

The event also attracted several top athletes, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, won the sprint double.
